The Best Tree Pruning Service

in Riverside, CA

One thing we love about the beautiful city of Riverside is the variety of incredible trees. When people think of California, they don't often think of "green." But anyone who has flown into John Wayne Airport probably noted all of the incredible greenery as they made their descent to the ground.

In order to maintain the look of our cities in the Inland Empire, all of those trees and plants need to be maintained. The earth is an incredible place and self-sustaining in many ways, so people may wonder, "Why should I get my trees pruned? Why is tree health important, won't it take care of itself?"

Trees and plants are perfect, but humans are not. We consistently create chemicals, waste and emissions that are harmful to trees, and they get sick as a result. We also plant trees in neighborhoods and various places around our communities for our enjoyment, not always thinking about the long-term care involved in making sure that they stay as safe and health as possible.

And we also must remember that trees aren't growing with our homes in mind. Sometimes they can grow in directions that are perilous for our residences or commercial establishments. These are just a few reasons why proper tree pruning is important.

Reasons to Prune Trees

There are a number of different reasons to consider tree pruning. We'll just cover a couple.

Reduces hazards to property and people - The most important thing is keeping people safe. It's probably no surprise that fallen branches from large trees could do damage, but you might be surprised by how much damage a tree that is considered to be "small" or moderately sized can do. Dead branches falling from trees are a danger to nearby people, power lines, and structures. Pruning helps maintain safe trees, which always helps us sleep better at night.

Helps healthy branches grow - Put simply, dead branches get in the way of the growth of healthy branches. Dead branches begin to droop, which take up valuable space and resources that the tree could be using to develop healthy branches. Removing the dead branches will encourage newer branches to grow.

Enhances aesthetic beauty - This one's a no-brainer! If you're into the looks of a tree, regular tree pruning can give you the appearance that you desire.

Provides strong structure - Pruning a tree can influence the way it grows. If pruned properly, a tree will grow into a certain configuration of branches and limbs that lends itself towards strong structural integrity. With this structure maintained, it's even possible to mitigate the risk of falling branches that can cause damage to property or people.

Prevents potential storm damage - A tree that has gone without pruning for long periods of time likely has many dead branches. In the event of a storm (or the Santa Ana winds around this area) dead branches can pose huge hazards, as they very easily break away from living trees. Especially during storms, these are responsible for lots of property damage especially to buildings and cars.

Riverside Tree Care Company Tree Pruning FAQs

  • When should I prune my trees?

Unless we're talking emergency branch removal, we'll generall perform tree pruning services in late fall or winter, which are the seasons when trees are dormant. During this time, the tree is the least susceptible to any harm that may result from pruning. During the dormant season, the tree loses less sap when pruned, and as a result, insects and fungus are less likely to show up and cause further damage to the tree. So this is the safest time to remove branches without damaging the tree. Of course, there are many different species of trees, and some may have more specific time requirements. If you want to be sure, please don't hesitate to call us. As certified tree care professionals, we have the knowledge and experience to help you determine the best time to prune your trees.

  • How much will you prune?

When it comes to trees, less is more. Generally, the goal of a tree pruning service is to prune only until you achieve the desired effect. No more and no less. It's never a good idea to prune more than a quarter of the crown of a tree, where most of the leaves are located. Without taking you back to junior high environmental science class, leaves are what supply a tree with most of its energy. So if too much is pruned too quickly, you run the risk of "starving" the tree, and fatally damaging it. So if you ever get your trees pruned and think "I thought they would have pruned more than this," that's tree pruning done right!

  • What's the difference between tree trimming and tree pruning?

Tree trimming concentrates on shrubs and hedges, while tree pruning is for trees or any type of bushes.

When you have your tree trimmed, overgrowth will be removed so that the plants can get more light and moisture- but when you're doing this to a bush, it might be better if they were also cut back by about one third. If there's too much foliage in the way then these branches may start growing into each other which would make them weaker than before; we not only want strong limbs, but also healthy ones!

  • Can you repair a tree that has been over pruned?

If a tree has been over pruned, the road to recovery is a long one. It's going to need a lot of extra help.

The lack of healthy leaves left on the tree means it will have a diminished capacity for photosynthesis, making it unable to efficiently absorb energy from the sun. In these cases, proper fertilization and water will be needed to help the tree recover. You will have to supply all of the necessary nutrients that the tree is not able to gather itself to produce its own food. Do you think your tree has suffered from over pruning? Don't hestitate to reach out to us. As arborists, we want any and all trees to be saved when possible. And we would be happy to give you tips on what you can do to help make that happen.
